Angelo Dilibero, Director of Financial Services at Alliance Group, a leading global giant in the finance and insurance sector, talks to the CEOWORLD magazine about role models and winning an internal award for “Most Trusted Advisor” multiple times over.
How do you start your day?
I wake up at 5am every day. Then, after a well drilled routine of caffeine and stretching, I review emails that have flooded into my inbox from all sorts of time zones while I have been sleeping. I will consider what to reply and what I need to communicate with key contacts and co-workers while absorbing sixty minutes of news and Bloomberg. I feel that if the preparation for the day is correct and the intention is set our properly from the beginning of the day, the rest of the day just flows well, irrelevant to the daily challenges that inevitably pop up.
What do you bring to the Alliance Group?
I work with Alliance because we have a very unique and forward-thinking ethos, which enables us to participate and lead in sectors where the average industry thinking is antiquated, at best.
In our current world, where clients from all over the world facilitate their daily lives, including high value important matters, with the touch of a button, it is revitalising to be part of a company that challenges the norm and leads evolution through technological advances or simplified processes.
How does Alliance recruit people for the top management positions?
Candidates approach us on a regular basis at Alliance Group. We place emphasis on trust, and if a candidate can be recommended from another staff member or we can promote where possible, we know that we will find a reliable and trustworthy candidate who already possesses the “Alliance” qualities.
If you were to describe the perfect Alliance Director?
Fundamentally, they should be a good person, with exceptional business skills. Honesty and integrity are vital too.
How do you see the company changing in the next two years, and how do you see your role in creating that change?
I see growth as the major change expected for Alliance Group, alongside technological advancements. Globalisation and the ease and speed of communication through technology is constantly changing the way in which we interact with each other and this presents itself through our client interaction.
I believe that my ability to understand that interaction from the client´s perspective is my role in not only maintain current business channels and the various services that Alliance Group provides, but also growing the company and being responsive and adaptable to our constantly changing world.
What are your biggest accomplishments?
In a business sense, my biggest accomplishment would be changing lives. I have won accolades and prizes for business performance and excelling in different roles, but these are not as important to me as when staff who have worked under my guidance have thanked me for the constant attention and lessons I have given to them, and to lesser experienced staff. I´m pleased to say that many have commented that they would not be where they are now if it had not been for my genuine interest in their development, not only as employees but as people too. Giving back is essential to me.
Early on in my career I was the top business development manager across the globe, and later went on to win the Alliance award for “Most Trusted Advisor” on a number of occasions.
Describe yourself in one word?
Focused. Focused. Focused.
Role models, do you have any?
Richard Branson, of course, is the ultimate business role model. Forward thinking and open minded, he breaks the moulds in many different industries, all whilst breaking records and performing humanitarian work. As well as all of this, he assists entrepreneurs from the ground up and he has an enviable ethos in putting employees first.
Aims for the next 5 years?
I wish to continually grow personally and from a business perspective, strive to learn something new every day.
If anything, what would you do differently in your life?
Absolutely nothing. There is only growth and forward momentum when things go right and learning and perspective when things go not so right.
What advice can you give to hungry new executives in the finance and insurance sector?
Learn, learn and keep learning! If you can find yourself a genuinely successful role model and learn what they attribute their success to, that is key. There are usually some golden rules hidden under an ability to refresh their thinking and business practice.
